About Soaring Penguin
In 1997, after several years as a member of the Comics Creators Guild, John Anderson decided to publish Meanwhile… a comics anthology. It was his aim to provide a publication that would showcase the tremendous talent he saw looking for an opportunity to get into print.
The first issue was published by Crow Comics. Following that company’s demise, John formed Soaring Penguin to produce 3 further issues, the fourth one running at 96 pages. He (along with Howard Stangroom) were successful in getting an Arts Council Grant to assist with the printing costs.
In 2000, John was approached to assist in the production of the revived Comics Forum, the magazine of the Comics Creators Guild. After 2 issues working on the paste-up, John took a more senior position, and began producing the magazine himself, not only facilitating the design and printing, but also getting Comics Forum solicited through Diamond Comics.
In 2002, John took over the printing and distribution chores for From The Tomb increasing its circulation tenfold, and enabling Peter Normanton to concentrate on the content.
In 2004, Soaring Penguin became incorporated, providing a basis for expanding the business.
In 2008, John became Chair of the Comics Creators Guild
In 2009, Soaring Penguin entered into a contract with Kalimasu Productions to publish Jack Falls, the graphic novel that ties in with the films Jack Says and Jack Said. Also in 2009, Soaring Penguin has agreed to publish the first compilation of the popular web comic Planet Karen.
